My approach to encaustic
Encaustics bring together my approach to collage and my approach to painting. I use much of the same imagery as in my collages, but use the wax to add layers of transparency and translucency and thick, painterly brushtrokes. Because the wax can be carved, drawn into and re-melted, I can add and remove elements more easily, making the work more spontaneous and visceral.
